Update: 06/11/2015 – PC Version 1.8.61.1020 / Mac Version 1.8.61.1220

Hey Simmers,

It’s Thursday! There’s some exciting Stuff happening just around the corner, and we have a release to release to you… in this release. So, stretch out to a new world, welcome your Sims with a little fruitcake, and draw up a room where you can place a chair to sit in, in order to relax, if that is your inclination, or perhaps you’re more of an on the edge of your seat type of person, in which case you shouldn’t sit back, because that wouldn’t really make sense…

…well, anyway.

Um, what’s new!?

We have heard the cries from the mountain tops for space (“My Sims need space!” <- see right there). And so, welcome to Newcrest! Fifteen lots await your creative hand to build to your desire. OR if you are less inclined to build from scratch, jump into the Gallery and populate your world from your fellow Simmers’ creations. Some have already built some amazing lots, just search for #BuildNewcrest.

The return of the Welcome Wagon! Have you been finding it difficult to break the ice with your neighbors? Can’t seem to get anyone to come to the door and engage in a deep conversation about dinosaurs or your insecurities? Now when you move in to a new lot, your neighbors* will arrive with a welcoming smile and a pound of fruitcake.

*Please note: fruit cake, welcoming smile, and inviting neighbors require neighbors.

And to answer the unanswerable question of where does a lawn ornament go when their time is up, the Reagnomper gnome has been seen skulking about the Build catalog.

Tutorials have been given a facelift! Introductory dialogs now provide context as to the mode or lesson being taught, and allow you to skip a portion of the tutorial that you may already be familiar with.

A new tool, the Custom Room Tool, is now in Build Mode. This tool will allow you to draw your own room shapes.

You can find the tool in the Walls and Empty Rooms sort in Build Mode.
As you draw, each click will place a new wall segment, an indicator of the last clicked position, and a starting position. To complete the room, click back to the starting position.
The last clicked position provides information to you in regards to the undo behavior.

And what about issues we’ve fixed?

Issues (General)

We fixed a plagiarism issue that was allowing the “Original by” creator information associated with a lot or room to become lost after using the placement option via Manage Worlds and then re-uploading the lot to the Gallery.
Sims in inactive households will no longer find themselves conscripted into unwanted jobs.
You! Yes you ‘in the inactive household’ behind the ‘build structure that approximates the appearance of a’ grandstand. Stand still, Simmie!
We fixed an issue that could cause corruption of the save files when players attempted to share their save files with one another.
Using the “Enchanting Introduction” while running on a treadmill will no longer cause the Sim to sink into the treadmill.
Working Out will no longer satisfy the Mentor Fitness or Study Opponents daily tasks from Professional Athlete and Bodybuilder career branches.
Hungry Ghosts will no longer be informed that they might drown while they are swimming... mostly because we couldn’t quite agree from a philosophical approach about what it means to die when dead.
I suppose if you consider the ghost as a reanimation of former life, it is possible that the re-death would result in a termination of that animation. But not all agree that the ghost is a reanimation, but rather a reflection of the former Sims spirit housed in a ghostly apparition. In which case, death of a reflection no longer made sense.
Discussions on a Sims development team can get quite odd sometimes…
don’t ask me about woohoo.
Fixed an issue that could prevent the player from editing the relationships of a household that was downloaded from the Gallery and merged with a currently non-played household.
Candles will no longer be impacted by the paying of or lack of paying bills.
Much to our dismay, it turns out that candles don't actually draw their fuel source from the power grid, but instead rely upon a rudimentary combustion for their fuel, or in some cases battery power. Neither of which are impacted by payment of bills. Huh, crazy I know.
Ask on Date was available as an option earlier than intended, resulting in many Sims hopes being dashed without any possibility of success.
I remember those times.

Issues (Get to Work)

Aliens have begun to adjust to the strange and scary visiting Sims to their home world and are more likely to venture from their homes, if only to catch a glimpse of a Sim.
Male Sims that reach level 10 in the detective career will now properly unlock the prison jumpsuit in Create a Sim.
Fixed an issue that was failing to save the mannequin outfit, resulting in the mannequin display reverting to another outfit rather the players setting.

Issues (Luxury Party Stuff)

Fruit Punch Fountain will now appear charred when charred.
Ok, you probably didn't run into this (crosses fingers)… but if you ran into the "why doesn't it burn issue" that was briefly possible in late May, and you have installed Luxury Party Stuff and you then attempted to upload to the Gallery or bulldoze the lot that had the burn issue, you may have found yourself in a “my lot is corrupted, life has ended, I see a light” state of mind, or maybe not to that extreme. This issue has now been fixed.

Thanks Simsical Creations

The World of Newcrest is Coming to The Sims 4

Welcome to Newcrest

Simmers have created millions of Sims since The Sims 4 released last September, and many of our players have been asking for more space to move them into. Next week, we’ll answer that request by adding a new World, free* for all The Sims 4 owners!

The World of Newcrest will be joining Willow Creek and Oasis Springs next Thursday! Everyone playing The Sims 4 will be able to start building right away in Newcrest, a completely empty world ready to be settled by your Sims.

We know that many of you wanted more room to expand, but didn’t have the heart to evict the likes of Bella Goth, Malcolm Landgraab, and Bob Pancakes. We can’t blame you – who would want to live in a world without the Goths? That’s why we made Newcrest a clean slate. It’ll contain three new neighborhoods, each with five empty lots. You can download homes from the Gallery, build your own, and put whatever you want there! Bars, clubs, parks, houses, pools – you’ll be able to let your creativity shine in Newcrest. In case you want to start building homes now to get ready, here are the lot sizes:

Neighborhood #1:

• 50x40
• 40x30
• 40x30
• 30x30
• 30x20

Neighborhood #2:

• 30x20
• 30x20
• 40x30
• 20x15
• 20x15

Neighborhood #3:

• 30x20
• 30x20
• 30x20
• 40x30
• 40x20

Moving day is June 11, so start building awesome new houses (or find some cool ones on The Gallery). We can’t wait to see what you create in Newcrest!

You’re Invited: The Sims 4 Luxury Party Stuff is Coming Next Week!

Get Fancy

Today, we are thrilled to announce the very first stuff pack for The Sims 4! It’s called The Sims 4 Luxury Party Stuff*, and it’ll be available next week on May 19. As our long-time players will know, past stuff packs featured new clothing and furniture themed around a specific idea. But with The Sims 4 stuff packs, we’re also adding new gameplay to the mix.

Let’s talk about Luxury Party Stuff specifically.

Luxury Party Stuff is all about high end, red carpet, party ‘til dawn bashes that require – nay, demand – all the trappings and majesty of the right crowd. The pack features stunning dresses, suits, makeup, and accessories for the Sims in your neighborhoods. You’re really able to set the scene with pulsing, glowing, beat-magnifying objects like a new bar, sculptures, and killer lighting that’ll be perfect for revising your neighborhood’s local lounges and bars.

The Sims 4 Luxury Party Stuff has two awesome new gameplay objects that are essential for throwing a fantastic party. Firstly, the banquet table, which you can fill with recipes your Sims prepare themselves, or quickly stock it with new appetizers. Nobody should party on an empty stomach. The second object is the new food/drink fountain, which you can place on top of your banquet table. Streaming from the top are all sorts of delicious things to consume, including rich, decadent chocolate (perfect for strawberries) and several other delightful delicacies. There’s even room for mischief and more, especially for Sims gifted in the Culinary and Mixology skills!

We’re excited. We hope you’re excited. The invitation goes out today and the party begins next week. Assemble your posse of style-inclined friends and join us at the luxury party.

Stay tuned for more information and get your party clothes ready!

Good News for CAS!

EA has answered regarding the CAS categorization issue and has said they will fix the problem on their end.

This means that CAS creators will not have to update pre-patch content in order to have it sort appropriately into categories in the game.

Get Ready for Basements in The Sims 4

Head Underground and See What You Can Build

Hello everyone! SimGuruRomeo here to give you a quick look at basements in The Sims 4, part of a free update releasing on March 26. When we started working on basements we wanted to make sure they were special. These aren’t just any basements, these are The Sims 4 basements. That means maintaining the flexibility of game’s building systems. We wanted basements to really take advantage of the tools you already know how to use, and to allow the same level of creativity we’ve seen since launch.

Using the new basement tool, you’re able to draw a basement from the floor above easily. Once it’s there, you can begin building with all of the normal build tools, making just about anything you can think of. We’ve had a lot of fun in the past few weeks building different things using the new basements and The Sims 4’s creative tools.

What makes them so great? Well…

You can build them two levels deep. If you’re not content with simply one level of underground housing, we have you covered. You’re able to build a second level underground as well. This, mixed with the addition of one more floor above ground that’s being added with this free update, brings the new total house size to six floors – double what it was before!

You can delete their ceilings. After you build a basement (or two) you can select the basement block, navigate to ground level, click the yellow highlighted area, and completely remove the ceiling. We’ve had a ton of fun creating everything from underground bunkers to open-air houses that look like giant holes in the ground.

You can put pools in the basements. Who hasn’t wanted to drop into their personal basement pool for a midnight swim? But basements can be even cooler than that. Besides being able to create pools in basements, you’re also able to build pools adjacent to basements. That means a pool can be right up against the side of a basement, and if you make the pool’s walls out of glass, you’re basically making a giant human fish tank.

You can make your Retail Business even weirder. So, you’ve built a fun bakery in The Sims 4 Get to Work* using the new retail system. Awesome! Good work! But what if you wanted to expand your business? You could always build a shop in your basement, too, selling anything from toilets to… alternative clothing.

Excited? You won’t have to wait long to build your own basements. They’re available in a patch rolling out, for free, to all users on March 26 in anticipation for next week’s launch of The Sims 4 Get to Work.

Introducing Genealogy

Can you believe it? This week marks the 15 year anniversary of The Sims™. This is a massive milestone, not just for us in the studio but for all of our players, many of whom have shared this journey from that very first day. We will be celebrating throughout the month of February, but what better way to kick off than by talking about a much-requested feature that we are bringing to The Sims 4 today.

Genealogy is essential for legacy and family players to fully appreciate the scope of their games. For all those players who lovingly document every generation of their Sims, print out their family trees, and keep tracking of the complex relationships that develop, Genealogy is an incredibly valuable tool.

Let’s take a look at a Sim family you might see in the game.

Now, with this feature, you’ll be able to look at your Sim’s family history, including brothers and sisters, mothers, fathers, grandparents (and some greats, and great greats, etc.), step relationships (like Step-Parent), half relationships (like Half-Sibling), and of course, Spouses.

After you download the most recent The Sims 4 update, you can find this in Live Mode by opening the Simology Panel (or hit the Y key).

Then, click Show House’s Genealogy.

Boom! There’s the whole family. You can now view and track the vast relationships you’ve accumulated in your Sims’ lifetimes. Who is related to whom? Which child came from which grandfather? It’s all there for you.

Let us think of a traditional story, that demonstrates the value of Genealogy.

In the beginning, Malcom meets Beatrice. They wed and soon have three strapping sons: Pablo, Paulo, and Steve.

Pablo fell in love with a lad named Steve, who was often confused with the brother Steve. They adopted three children, one of whom is also called Steve. That’s three Steve’s in one family. Now, using Genealogy, you can easily know which Steve you are referring to.

Paulo became entranced with Lettucia, whose family name was Crisp. Lettucia had a fine daughter from a previous tryst, Tomata. Though he was fatherly to her, Genealogy helps us know that Paulo is her Step-Father.

Finally, Steve (yes, the original Steve) met Jane. They fell in love in the deepest way and were inseparable. They married and soon had a lovely daughter, Jean. Jean was beautiful, with curls of red. Unfortunately, tragedy befell the household and Jane died too soon. After years of grieving, Steve met Janie. The irony was not lost at all by anyone. Janie and Steve had a daughter Joan to properly confuse everyone. Genealogy shows Joan is in fact Jean’s half-sister.

So, there you have it. A quick introduction to Genealogy. We look forward to seeing what our legacy and family players do with the tool. Don’t forget to share your stories on our forums.

Top 10 Things You Need to Know About the New Careers Update

We’ve been so excited to see all the creativity from our players following the free Ghosts and Pools Updates. We look forward to seeing what you do with the four new career paths that we’ve added in today’s Update. We snuck a few surprises in too! Here are the top ten things you need to know:

1.       Two New Business Career Paths: Your Sims can now work their way up the corporate ladder to become an Angel Investor or a Business Tycoon.

2.       Two New Athletic Career Paths: Your Sims can now make a living working up a sweat as a Hall of Famer or Mr. or Ms. Solar System.

3.       New Outfits: Each career will have career-specific outfits that will update as your Sims advance through the levels of their new career track, including a gold tracksuit!

4.       New Objects and Interaction Rewards:  Sims will be rewarded with special objects and unlock interactions unique to the career of their choice as they level up. Will your Sim give fake investment tips or offer to “pump up” a fellow Sim?

5.       New Career Reward Rooms: As your Sim moves through their career, they will unlock career reward rooms found in Build Mode to help you create the ultimate in Athletic or Business home décor.

6.       New Gallery Updates: We’ve added some new gallery updates like advanced and modded filters. To take a peek at all that is included with this month’s game update, read our patch notes here.

7.       Strictly Business Gnome:  While other gnomes laze around your garden or relax poolside, the Strictly Business Gnome has no time for that. With briefcase in hand, he's got places to go, calls to make, meetings to attend.

8.       Move Objects Cheat: Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, this update also includes the Move Objects Cheat! The Move Objects Cheat allows players to create unique objects by combining two or more items. For example, a player can combine a bed and curtains to create a canopy bed. You can use the cheat with any object. Or you could just make a really cluttered room!

To activate the cheat:

1.       Type Ctrl-Shift-C to bring up the game’s console.

2.       Enter “testingcheats true”

3.       Enter “bb.moveobjects”

4.       Enter “Ctrl-Shift-C” to close the dialog box

5.       To turn off the cheat, repeat steps 1-4.

·         Note, once the cheat is off, you can’t move the affected objects. If you do, the “moveobject” ability will be lost.

9.       Holiday Sweaters: It wouldn’t be a holiday update without sweaters! Fans voted for Sweater #4 and we managed to sneak in a couple more, so your Sims can celebrate in style.

10.     Holiday Décor: The holiday cheer doesn’t end there! The Holiday Celebration Pack will have festive décor and offer other interesting twists to your Sim’s wardrobe. For more info in how to download this fabulous free festive pack, see below.

To get the Update, simply login to your Origin account and launch The Sims 4.

We hope you enjoy taking your Sim’s career to new heights this holiday season!

Free Content Updates in The Sims 4 Starting…Now! Also, Gnomes

It’s hard to believe it’s been a month since we launched The Sims 4, but in that short time we’ve received a ton of great feedback as you’ve started exploring the game. We’ve designed The Sims 4 to be a live service, so we can continually evolve the experience, add new content, and incorporate as much of your feedback as possible. That’s what I’m here to talk about today.

So let’s get to it. Live RIGHT NOW is the first of three major game updates coming to The Sims 4 over the next three months, each with new features, new content and more. The updates will be free for everyone playing The Sims 4 who downloads the latest patch, and yes, there will be pools!

First, a rundown on the October update:

   • October brings the spoooooky addition of Ghosts to The Sims 4. Your dead Sims can now rejoin the world of the living, where they maintain all the attributes they had a as a Sim, but with special new behaviors based on how they died. Invite them to join your Sims’ household and they can be playable characters; if you dare, you might even find a way to bring your ghosts back to life.

  • Did you feel that disturbance in The Force? It was probably our new Star Wars Costume Set. Outfit your Sims in Luke Skywalker’s X-wing pilot suit, Leia’s white robes and awesome cinnamon buns, Darth Vader’s suit and, yes, even Yoda. I mean, who out there hasn’t dressed as Yoda for Halloween, right? Now you can in The Sims 4, too!

   • Community requests like new eye colors are in there, too. I have personally just given all my Sims purple eyes. Because I can. We’ve also fixed a few minor bugs as well.

Next come two more major updates:

   • In November, get your Sim-suits ready (too much pun? Sorry!) because pools will make their triumphant debut in The Sims 4.

   • December is Put-Your-Sims-To-Work Month, as we introduce new Career paths and rewards.

All of these updates will be free for our players in The Sims 4. Just log in to Origin and download the patches as we release them. Each update will be full of great content and some surprises. Think that gnomes only live in gardens? Clearly, you’re not playing enough of The Sims 4.

Our players are just the best. Period. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy seeing so many creations from The Sims 4 shared in The Gallery, in forums and streams on Twitch. One of my recent faves is Deligracy’s speed build video of the “Not so Dusty Turf” Family Home. The details and her commentary are spectacular (whispers to Deligracy: I’ve also glued eyes onto cactus plants to make them look like people too). This is why all of us working on The Sims 4 just love making this game – the creativity that comes to life in our community is like nothing else. Please keep showing us more, we can’t get enough.

We’ve been keeping our ears and eyes on all of the comments and questions you have about The Sims 4. It’s awesome to be able to help with tips and tricks for some questions right away:

   • For example – looking for the old camera control system? Just hit Shift-Alt-Tab in live mode!

   • Another one – perhaps you’re moving your first family into their first home, did you know you can choose from more than just the vacant homes? You can bulldoze a lot or evict some NPC Sims, no red tape required!

   • OK one more – did you know you can change your Sims’ Aspirations at any time? Click the star button on the bottom right corner in Live mode to open the Aspirations panel, then click the star button on the right side and you’ll see all available Aspirations. If your Sim with the Evil trait just can't find love on his mission to become the town player, then maybe switching to pursue the Deviance aspiration will be more up his alley.

Other topics may take a bit more time. We know our players on Mac are looking to hear more. We are working on it. When we have more to share, we’ll bring the news to you right here.

We look forward to sharing more about the November and December content updates right here as we get closer to release. We’re also exploring new features and some expansion packs for further down the line, and we’re always listening to your feedback to help us decide what to build. We’ve said from the beginning that The Sims 4 is all about endless play possibilities, and we hope each of these updates add fun new dimensions to your experience.

Happy Simming!

It's Getting Spooky in Here: Ghosts Are Now Haunting The Sims 4

We’re super excited to announce the release of ghosts in The Sims 4. Check out our guide below!

Ghosts, how do they work?

Just how do you find these spooky creatures from the spirit world? When a Sim dies, non-player character (NPC) ghosts attach to a tombstone or urn around your Sim’s home or yard. But these aren’t just decorations. You can build relationships with these ghosts, and invite them to join your Sim’s household where they can become playable characters. Once a ghost is “playable” it can get a job, get married and contribute to the family like any living Sim. Of course, they wouldn’t be properly undead without some special ghostly abilities and behaviors.

Ghostly Behavior

Ghosts are a moody bunch and much of what they do depends on how they’re feeling and how they died. Ghosts that die from laughter stay positive, with a moodlet causing nearby Sims to become playful. Beware of ghosts that die from anger, as they will have a very different attitude. Other ghosts will have more…unique behaviors. Sims that have been electrocuted to death will become ghosts capable of breaking objects by possessing them. Victims of the Cow Plant spend the afterlife interested in gardening; if you’re lucky, a ghost will lovingly tend to your Sim’s garden, but a bad mood will lead to a yard full of dead plants.

Luckily it’s pretty easy to tell what mood a ghost is in as they tend to radiate their emotions for everyone to see - it’s the undead version of wearing your emotions on your sleeve.

The way you play determines ghost behavior as well. If you keep your ghost Sims happy they’ll be a big help around the house freeing Sims to spend time working on goals, making friends or whatever it is that makes them happy. For example, you may hate how long it takes normal Sims to repair objects around the home. With ghosts around you can use “ghostly repair” to save all kinds of time! A Ghost Sim can even be used as a sort of maid that tidies up while your Sim family sleeps if the Ghost Sim has the “neat” trait.

Getting Rid of Ghosts

Tired of your ghost Sim? No problem! Ghosts can be easily banished to the netherworld with one interaction on their urn or tombstone. You can also bring ghosts back to life! If a Sim has a high enough gardening and cooking skill they can make a tasty plate of Ambrosia to bring ghosts back from the dead. You’ll need three ingredients to do that – Ambrosia, a Death Flower and the Potion of Youth.

We really hope that you enjoy the new ghostly gameplay and we can’t wait to see what new stories you’re going to tell. Happy haunting Simmers!

P.S. Make sure you launch Origin to download the latest update. It will automatically introduce ghosts into your game.

The Sims 4: New Game Patch

Remove all MODS and Custom Content before updating your game :!:

Update: 9/9/14

New decorative object! The High-Rider Gnome has journeyed long from his hidden grotto in the tropics to join you in The Sims 4.  He’s eagerly awaiting your arrival in Build Mode, ready to grace your homes with his feats of stationary flamingo bronco busting!
Look for him in Build Mode in the Outdoors or Decorations sorts, or type Gnome in the search box.
Sim and object highlights can now be toggled on/off by entering hovereffects on/off in the cheat console (this will eliminate the white border on a Sim or an object when you hover over it to interact).  In addition, you can add -nohovereffects to the Command Line Arguments.  In order to add the argument:
Open the Origin client, right click on The Sims 4 game box art, select “View Game Properties”, click “Game Properties”, enter -nohovereffects into the text box, and then click Apply.

The Sims 4 Creator's Camp Photos by Ruth Kay

Ruth Kay at Simply Ruthless shared these screenshots and more from The Sims 4 Creator's Camp.  I wasn't that crazy about the game after playing around with the Create A Sim Demo but I still think EA pretty much outdid themselves with the building and design part of the game.

And now we know, the CC creators have the CAS part covered.  Now we just wait for the objects/building/walls/etc. recolors when the game is released.

The Sims 4 Master Info Compilation

Here is absolutely EVERYTHING we know about TS4, as of: 5/9/14

imageMultitasking- New technology allows Sims to eat and talk, exercise and watch TV…nearly any feasible combination of interactions. This makes Sims feel much more natural and believable.
imageGroup Controls- Sims can form groups of up to six Sims. Groups can perform group interactions. Sims don’t have to all be standing or doing the same thing in a group. Sims will turn their heads and their upper body appropriately during conversations.
imageNeeds/Motives- No more motive bars. Each need is either green, yellow or red, meaning it requires immediate attention (see below).
image
imageEmotional States- Within each of the emotional states – including happy, sad, inspired and depressed, among others – are a range of nuances that will unlock contextual actions. Sad Sims might be inspired to paint something depressing, while angry Sims might have extra drive when working out! Mood influences Sim behavior and animation as well- the way the Sim gets out of bed, walks, talks, and interacts with other Sims are all affected by mood. Emotions can even be triggered by dreams!
There will be 15 emotional states in the base game. Below are the known states:
  • Neutral (Default)
  • Angry – Enraged – Furious
  • Bored
  • Confident
  • Cranky
  • Dazed
  • Embarassed
  • Energized
  • Flirty – Romantic  Passionate
  • Focused – Inspired
  • Happy – Elated
  • Playful
  • Sad – Depressed
  • Stressed
imageEmotionally Triggered Abilities- Sad Sims do poorly at work, unless they are writers. Flirty Sims can dim the lights by clapping their hands. Emotions are like temporary traits.
imageFurniture Influence on Mood- An inspirational painting could boost the creativity of a Sim, while a room decorated with many romantic objects will make Sims feel “flirty”. However, just one romantic candle will not dramatically affect the mood of a Sim…it is more about the overall tone of the room.
imageCreate-A-Sim- Like molding clay, but not as messy. Each Sim has 18 points the player can grab and mold to perfection. Advanced tweaking is also possible. Jewelry, hats and shoes are completely free from clothing. Body shape is genetic. Clothing can be unlocked by completing certain tasks and achievements. Click here to watch a demo of the new CAS!
imageBuy Mode- Furniture can be purchased through an Ikea-like catalogue, offering a range of items that directly influence how a Sim feels within the environment. You can drag and drop an entire room set and it will adjust to the size of the room dynamically. Furniture can be unlocked by completing certain tasks and achievements.
imageBuild Mode- Just as in the new CAS, everything is fun and simple; you just plop down rooms and pull them apart and shape them as you please. The new “blocks” system allows for extreme flexibility. You don’t need to plan a house beforehand. The new system is more flexible and requires less time and patience. You can adjust the pitch, curvature and overhand of roofs! Still no curved walls. Automatic window tool.
imageRelationship System- Instead of one relationship bar that slowly increases from friendship to romance, TS4 now has two concurrent bars- romance and friendship. It will be much easier to stay friends with a Sim without delving into romantic territory. This also opens up the possibility for “soul mates”, or two Sims that have maxed out friendship and romance bars!
imageAspiration System- Sims can have an unlimited number of Aspirations, which feature intermediate goals along the way and wide-reaching progression branches. Once a Sim completes an Aspiration, they’ll get the corresponding Aspiration Trait that goes along with it. A Sim that becomes a master chef, for example, will get a cooking-based Aspiration Trait.
imageWhims- A short-term goal for your Sim, like playing chess or mixing a drink. Similar to Wants in TS2 or Wishes in TS3. Grants Aspiration Points.
imageTraits- Some new, some old. Five trait slots and one for primary aspiration. Traits can be unlocked by completing certain tasks and achievements. The only confirmed traits so far are mopey, shy, hot-headed, sociopath, insane and peppy!
imageSkill System- Skills are split into three categories: Focus (logic, cooking), Inspiration (painting, writing, bartending), and Energize (athletic). Around 10 skills in base game. Some more skills are piano, guitar, violin, gardening (which is much more complex in TS4), social, writing, painting, dating, and exercise.
imageActive Careers- The core game system allows for events where players can go out and play through certain parts of their Sim’s career. Again, you’ll be interacting with other Sims as well to move up the career ladder.
imageHealth- Sims naturally change over time. Eat too much and/or never exercise, you’ll get fat. Eat healthy food and work out, you’ll lose weight and/or maintain health. Sims will notice gaining/losing weight. Sims can no longer be muscular and obese at the same time.
imageVibrant Neighborhoods– Chose among brilliant and diverse lots for your Sims to live in. Vivid visuals bring your Sim’s home to life. The new neighborhood looks a lot like the Southern US, but more stylized and charming.
imageMemories- Sims will remember past outfits, relationships and experiences. These memories will have a significant effect on their behavior and mood.
imageSound Design- The game has over half a million sound files, and the sound system has gotten a technical overhaul. Sound now has direction; a Sim with his back facing the camera will sound a little muffled when he speaks. Music and sound will even be different depending on the shape of the room. Basically, TS4 has acoustics.
imageNew Simlish- The Sims voice team has now tripled to nine different actors. There is specific ‘slang’ for different Sim age groups, and there is a greater focus on object-specific terminology. Simlish feels more like a real language in TS4.
imageAnimation- Sims no longer pause in-between animations or look like robots when sitting in a chair. Everything is fluid and natural. It is subtle but very effective. Sims can perform most interactions either standing or sitting (you can sit on a bed and eat).
imagePath System- Sims in crowded spaces will maneuver around each other. Sims can pass each other on stairs. A hundred Sims can pass each other without a single one getting stuck. Similarly, a hundred Sims can all walk through a single doorway at once without anyone being stuck, stamping their foot in protest, or auto-canceling the interaction.
imageEvents- For example, a Sim can host a singles event, and invite all the single Sims in the neighbourhood to a party. Or as a chef, a Sim can attend a special event dinner.
imageConfirmed Objects- Cowplant, teapot, rocket ship, voodoo doll, cupcake maker, cars, painting easel, punching bag and more!
imageExpansions and DLC- A list of over 40 expansion packs and content for TS4 was released by EA in an official survey. Much of this content will likely appear in the game at some point. Click here for the full list of titles and descriptions
