Just wondering

Are any adfly links accessible anymore or have they all gone from moderate risk to fully malicious?  I just don’t see the point in posting finds/keeping old posts (with adfly) anymore if people can’t access them anyway.

I might spend the next day or so reverting half the posts on this blog to drafts until/if the files are accessible.

  1. I have gotten multiple trojans from ad.fly links :(

However, I have never seen that error. Most of the ad.fly ads lead to a FAKE "your computer has a virus, download this" page ...

    1. Same here. I once BEGGED a certain well-known Simblr to stop using adfly for exactly that reason, and was basically treated like an entitled piece of crap.
Maybe if blogs like this stop supporting adfly the community will stop using it, since apparently (miniscule) amounts of ad revenue are worth more than the goodwill of those who download their content.

    1. Same here. Had to get another extension just to block those ads, can\t trust Ad.fly links at all anymore.

  3. Both Chrome Firefox have extensions that SKIP adf.ly links. It's totally saved my life. Circumventing that dangerous shit is super easy and absolutely worth it.

    1. Thank you for this. I had no idea. I just added it!

  4. I won't go near adf.ly. I feel it is to risky to use, I'm not putting my computer at risk for some cc . If I can't find an alternative link I just forget about that cc.

  5. adfly has given me a lot of issues for a while- I use a chrome extension to skip them. I feel sort of bad, because the creators deserve support, but holy crap has adfly given me so much grief

    1. I say that as a creator for the Sims and other creative projects of my own that I do make money with. I don't speak for every creator, only myself. Monetary compensation is always hard to deal with and you always feel like you have to defend yourself, so I get why people use Adfly and treat those who ask for something without it poorly. I wouldn't call it right, but I get it.

There is another thing like Adfly that has never given me issues, shorte.st. If adfly becomes a really big issue, and shorte.st actually doesn't give grief, maybe that would be a good alternative for creators?

    2. I also have to use that Chrome extension because I was tired of malicious websites/trojans popping up. My virus scanner would always get rid of them, but like other posters, I still do not want to risk my computer's health just for some CC.

I still download from creators who use shorte.st. I have never once had anything malicious pop up from it. Shorte.st seems like it would be a great alternative.

  6. This Adfly crap has gotten extremely out of hand. It's an incredible shame that so many talented creators have to hide their cc behind an ad site that displays illegal or malicious content 90% of the time.
No offence to the talented creators who create such beautiful cc, and even conversions from our other favourite games, but they really, REALLY need to cut the crap and start respecting their own followers.
All in all, they're not going to keep their fanbase by destroying other simmer's PC's.

  7. I have never had an issue downloading anything that has Ad Fly, but I never click on any of the links in adfly, I have all videos & Popups turned off and I simply skip to the CC I want to DL.

A lot of times when people host their own creations and use things like adfly its not so much for profit but to cover the costs of the server they have to pay for. Server costs are not cheap esp if you have a lot of traffic on it. I personally would love to see adfly disappear because its annoying but I at least understand why some creators use it.

  8. Oh, and I never had that kind of warning of addfly. links, ever. I hate addfly as hell since they are full of irritating, malicious crap. But I have obsession to get the cc I want :(

  9. I have had problems with both ad fly and shorte.st
I had shorte.st actually lock my browser and announced that I need to call such and such number & that my computer has been infected with viruses, which it had not! I actually had to reboot my pc over that crap.Much like those stupid telemarketer calls that says my computer is running slowly, etc. I am not making a judgement call on the creators who use ad fly or shorte.st but I do think it is getting much more difficult to get those downloads without having issues.Ad fly skipper seems to work most of the time but there have been many exceptions that it has been broken on certain CC and you either go without or take the risk of downloading & hope you do not get the bells and whistles that you have set your computer on fire

  10. I definitely don't like the Ad.fly or Shorte.st links and I avoid them. I used to be ok with them, but I got a trojan from using Shorte.st (I don't click on anything other than the skip button on either site) and I've gotten trojans from Ad.fly as well as a page that I couldn't close that told me I had to call them and make a payment for them to fix my PC and it even said it would delete my hard drive if I tried to restart my PC. I restarted anyway and everything was fine, but it was still scary. So now I just think no CC is worth possibly ruining my computer. After all, without a computer, I can't play TS4, and therefore won't need any cc anyway.

    1. Shorte.st does that now, too? I need to be careful, then, because I still download from Shorte.st links. I haven't had any problems with Shorte.st yet, but I have gotten that same page with Adfly several times before I downloaded the Adfly Skipper for Chrome.

  12. I use Adblocker AND AdF.ly Skipper plugins for Chrome just to to avoid the malicious attacks from Adfly and so far, so good. I can't promise everyone will be save using the method I do, because I don't know what antivirus software they have, etc, but yeah. I don't think adfly deserves revenue from my views/clicks until they can put out a service that isn't atrocious/unsafe.

    1. Adblock and a AdF.ly skip extensions used to work for me but now the links shut down so I have to disable the blockers :/

    2. Eri S, same anon here...I just downloaded something via adfly using the same extensions mentioned and it works for me. Are you on Chrome or Firefox? The reason I got AdF.ly Skipper was specifically because Adfly could sense AdBlocker and make it impossible for me to download. In terms of AdFly, I would say AdF.ly Skipper is definitely teh more important extension. So, if it turns out to be some kind of conflict where the two aren't playing together, I'd choose AdF.ly skipper to handle Adfly. (Sometimes when extensions/programs conflict they just disable each other or they don't function properly.) I haven't used Firefox in foreverrrr so if you're on that, it may be some other issue entirely.

  13. adf.ly is a modern pest. If someone wants to compensate costs of web hosting, I don't believe it. You can put your stuff on tons of free providers. If he/she wants to make money of it, it should be a regular pay-site. But masking it as free with the minor incovenience of having to go via an ad site is a plain lie. No, it's worse. You deliberately put your potential "customers" at risk since you simply don't care what threats they are exposed to - it's out of the author's hands, and it's okay as long as the tiny bits of cash are flowing? So far I haven't seen anything worth making an exemption and unblock ad.lie. I (honestly!) thank the author of this thread to bring it up to a wider public awareness. Signed, Tom

  14. All of these comments saying creators need to respect their followers and stop using Adf.lfy - please stop.

This topic has been wandering around on Tumblr, etc.,for quite some time now, and for me, someone using Adf.ly, take this simple clue: Get an AdBlocker or an Adf.ly Skip Plugin.

People fail to realize that Custom Content in The Sims is mainly free, unlike where as other games (e.g. Second Life) charge actual money for extra stuff.

It really doesn't hurt that much to support someone whose content you like by clicking their links. It is not like people want you to download malware on purpose, and let's not forget how TSR treats people that don't have a VIP-Status.

..and to the last anon: you don't understand how all of this works, neither do you complicate to analyze the whole topic, do you? Stuck up much. If you won't make an exception by blocking Adf.ly.. what's your problem, then? I really hope you have ever thanked a Creator personally for them making your game more enjoyable, 'cause if you don't it makes you somewhat of a hypocrite.

    Tl;dr

I have never ever had any big problems with Ad.fly. AdBlock counters most of pop-ups, and silly me doesn't even use a Virus Program.
